Product FAQ

Is melamine wood waterproof?

Melamine is a type of laminate, which is made by covering a substrate material, such as particleboard or MDF (medium-density fiberboard), with a decorative layer of paper or vinyl that has been impregnated with melamine resin. The resulting material is highly resistant to scratches, stains, and heat.

While melamine is water-resistant to some extent, it is not completely waterproof. If exposed to water for an extended period, the substrate material can become swollen and warped, which can cause the melamine layer to crack or peel off. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid exposing melamine surfaces to excessive moisture or to use a waterproof coating or sealant to protect them from water damage.
